Katie is in San Fernando

Hello Family and Friends of Katie,

This is Amy logging in on behalf of Katie who has now been in San Fernando for ten days.  She flew out a week ago Friday with Greg while Jimena flew out on Monday with Dan and Alonso.  The planes returned on Tuesday with a letter for me to summarize onto her blog.  Please forgive my tardiness in getting this on here as my family is in the process of moving homes and there has been little time.

The first few days that Katie spent in San Fernando she spent the night in the back room at Bella's house as Greg was staying in her apartment.  She composed her letter sitting under a palm branch at the outdoor kitchen table while waiting for Greg, Dan, and Pastor Cesar to arrive at Bella's Tuesday morning before they took off for Santa Cruz.  They had breakfast together next to the mostly enclosed dirt floor space that they use for a kitchen with the mud oven nearby.

Greg took pictures while there and Katie was hoping that I would get copies but that has not happened yet and he is gone now for over a week on a medical boat trip, so perhaps when he returns.

Katie mentioned that her house is great! She could not stop saying "Wow!", when she first saw it last Friday morning upon arrival.  The curious little kids crowded around parroting her excitement.  The house is now fully enclosed with locks on all the doors including bedrooms, 2 solar panels that get sun from 9AM to 4 PM which seems enough to light the apartment and church.  The lights were installed in the back house, bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen/dining area, and sanctuary.  The radio is in place and working as well and both girls were schooled in how to use everything including keeping the water tank filled.

Katie mentioned that the first bedroom has been sealed and painted a tan color.  Several of the little kids have already been pitching in to help which has included Katie cleaning little painty hand prints off the  wooden frames to the doors.  With the curtains that Katie hand-painted from sheets given to her, the finished product of Jimena's room looks cute.

Katie's bed frame, oven, kitchen table, chairs and whatever else that is needed will be made there over the next few weeks.

As they plane was getting ready to take off, Katie scribbled down some prayer requests:
  • for the town as a whole to accept them
  • for their transition
  • to reach the people at a heart level
  • to learn how to live there
  • that God would help them be an encouragement
  • to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit
She is reading Isaiah 43. God has chosen us and will provide! Fear not!
In Christ Alone,
Katie Wells
(she signed her letter but please remember that I completely summarized her sentiments.)

Greg told me as he shut the plane door and glance back, Katie had tears slipping down her cheeks.  Remember to  pray daily for this very new and different adventure that she is on.  My husband talked to her yesterday at the hanger while he flight followed and said she seemed to need to talk.  I hope to go tomorrow or soon to get the latest update.  I look forward to keeping you informed.

I keep up our family antics at Mozos on Mission if you click on the link, you can see a few recent photos from our trip that Katie joined us on to San Fernando.

Blessings,
Amy for Katie

  6. Hi Katie!
I'm so glad I don't have school right now - more time to think about and pray for you, which I love to do! A verse I read this morning brought me great comfort as I was feeling overwhelmed with some things. I hope and pray it will help you too! Isaiah 30:15a and 18b: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, IN QUIETNESS AND TRUST IS YOUR STRENGTH...blessed are all who WAIT FOR HIM"! Isn't that beautiful?
Que Dios te bendize y te sostenta con todo lo que necesitas! Te queremos mucho y sepas que nos hechas mucho de menos (I think I said that right - I'm trying to say we miss you! I may be "frenchifying" it!:)! Con mucho amor, Annette
