San Fernando from Ally's Perspective

A group of five girls headed out to San Fernando last monday, June 6th with the trustworthy pilot Greg!  The passengers included Ally, Emilee, Danielle (Katie's cousin), Olivia, and Samantha.  When we arrived, we were welcomed at the fence by Katie, Dina, and kids from the town.  We settled into the church and the rooms and showed Katie and Dina the items that were brought out for them.  After a quick snack of chips and dip, we rested and took a walk around the town.  We stopped at two different homes and after visiting for a while, went back to the church.  At night, we sang worship songs around a bonfire.  The stars were so clear and the moon was shining through the palm trees! What a beautiful night!! The next day, I spent the morning with Dina, helping her tutor two young boys in reading.  Being a literacy specialist, it was great to share ideas with Dina and to also see the God-given ability that Dina has to teach others.  It was such a blessing to see her help these boys in reading and God just shone right through her!! The school invited us to share during recess.  We talked with the kids about the Good Samaritian and performed a skit with the kids help.  In the afternoon, we took a trip on the river on a canoe!  The river was a calm and was great for a time of reflection and chatting with Katie and Dina.  At night, we held a prayer meeting.  The church was packed!! Worship, a message, a skit, and fellowship followed! Early in the morning, we made pancakes and headed back to the city...  It was a huge blessing to see how Katie and Dina continue to build relationships with families and kids in the community.  The warm welcome is noticed as we walk through the town and receive invites to come and talk and visit for a while.  God is continuing to do a good work in San Fernando! Our 3 days was full of fellowship, encouragement, and lots of great girl talk in English!! :)  Here are some pictures that describe our time...

  1. Thank you Ally, Danielle and Emilee for going to San Fernando! I know you were a huge encouragement to Katie in many ways, and I am positive that she loved talking English for two days with you! You blessed her heart.
